Have you ever seen one of those cake shows on television lately?  Right, who hasn’t!  Well, I am going to walk you through one of our recent cake constructions so you can see exactly how we make our cakes!

So, we received a phone call asking for a 35mm Camera Cake.  These were the specifications:

  • 35mm Camera
  • “Happy 30th Angelika” incorporated into the design
  • Flavor: Vanilla!

From here we started to plan.  When sculpting a cake, it is important to have many reference pictures.  The more the merrier really, because we need shots from many different angles, so that the replication is exact as possible!

Then, how are we going to do this cake?  We can make things out of many different mediums, so we must ask ourselves what the camera will be made of.  We can do cake, or rice cripsies here, so depending on what the client may like, they have an option, as well as how the cake needs to be supported and how far it must travel. Once we have our mediums picked out, it’s time to build away!

With this cake 1st we sculpted the camera.  As you see in the pictures here, we take rice cripsies and manipulate them to be in the shape we need to have a camera as an end result.  But, it is always important to remember that when fondant is added later, it will look different!

Once the Camera is sculpted, it is covered, and then set aside for further decoration later.  Next the cake is built, chilled, and covered with fondant in a contrasting color to really make that camera pop!

Some film is sculpted to add to the overall look and decoration of the cake, final details are added to the cake, and the inscription is put on to complete the cake.  From here the cake is chilled, photographed, and out for delivery!

Though very brief, this is how we create our crazy cake designs.  Working with the client to create designs and cakes that are both visually fantastic and stunning, while making them delicious as well!  I hope you enjoyed our little demo, and remember!  For all of your cake needs in the Hudson Valley be it birthdays, anniversarys, weddings or any special occasion, we hope you think of Corsino Cakes!
